In Bach, there is the mystery of cathedrals, the question of the eternal, universal beauty, which reveals itself to all without imposing anything other than the evidence of its greatness. The Mass in B minor affirms nothing and nor does it deny anything; it pushes us to contemplation, it questions, it interrogates the hearts of those who listen to it, and each time it provokes a different upheaval. Soli Deo Gloria is the closing formula at the end of the Gloria, but to Bach must go the eternal praise.
