44ème festival de musique de la Chaise-Dieu
La Chaise-Dieu

Located in the Livradois high-plateaus, in Haute-Loire, southern Auvergne, the village of La Chaise-Dieu (90 km south-west from Clermont-Ferrand and 130 km south-east from Lyon) is the historical center of the Festival. Most of the Festival concerts take place in the Church Abbey of La Chaise-Dieu, whose great acoustics, associated to the splendor of its architecture, its Dance of Death, its wood stalls, its wool and silk tapestries, its marble tomb and its Grand Organ, make a wonderful and spiritual place.

Founded during the 11th century by Robert of Turlande, the destiny of the Abbey changed when a previous La Chaise-Dieu monk became Pope under the name of Clement VI in 1342. Clement VI decided to finance the rebuilding of the Abbey Church, where he will be finally buried. His marble burial still illuminates the choir of monks

The Abbey Church is divided into two parts by a jube, so that during the Festival concerts, different types of seats are proposed to the spectators. From the choir and stalls seats, you have a direct view on the artists and excellent acoustics quality, Aisle seats are located behind the jube. From the central aisle seats you can partly see the artists through the jube double door ; from the side aisle seats you have no direct view. Those seats behind the jube offer very irregular quality of view and acoustics, and benefit from a live video retransmission on big screen.
