Ideally located in Auvergne, in the Regional Natural Park of Livradois-Forez at the gates to the Rhone-Alps region, Ambert is well worth a gourmet and festive detour.

Its famous “Fourme d’Ambert”,a mild blue-veined cheese of international renown is the pride of its inhabitants, and a source of happiness toall gastronomes. There are festivities throughout the summer: Ambert’s garden and wine fairs (in April), L'Art dans la Rue and La Ronde des Copains du Monde (in July), the Fourmofolies and the La Chaise-Dieu (in August).

Sports enthusiasts and nature lovers also find plenty to keep them busy: Ambertrail (in May), Rand'Auvergne (in June), Cyclo sportive Les Copains (in July). Swimming, hiking (200 km of markedtrail starting from the townand 350 km of mountain bike trails),leisure and microlightflights, ski and snowshoeoutings complete the offer.

A town vowed tonature in a green setting, and classified as a “ville fleurie deux fleurs”, Ambert is a town of fairs and markets, but also offers an elegant and very diversified architectural heritage: a historical centre with half-timbered houses, thermal spas, Art Nouveau villas,a Gothic church with a Renaissance bell tower.

Besides an invitation to stroll in the historical centre, Ambert underscores its special nature by offering a series ofdiscoveries that can be made by following the thematic visits of the town, the Maison de la Fourme, the Manufacture d’Images, MUS’ENERGIE, the Trains de la découverte and the Moulin Richard de Bas, dedicated to traditional paper-making and offering a contemporary approach to cultural transmission through writing.

And there are the gastronomic delights: the Fourme d'Ambert and its specialties, charcuterie, bilberries, mountain honeys and other local products are offered on the market every Thursday morning.
